Oublions le Total Eclipse qui permettait de classer hâtivement 202 Project dans le fourre-tout du revival « post-punk et grisaille ». Tout en prolongeant l’état d’esprit développé précédemment sur le titre « Raw Club », cet album régénère d’anciennes idées jusque-là restées en suspens. Jean-Pierre Marsal élabore des instrumentaux plus contemplatifs mais qui gardent en ligne de mire un indéniable sens du groove. Pas de basse funky, non, mais une façon de répéter le thème qui confine à la fièvre hypnotique (« One Way to the Window », « Crevasse de Glace ») pour l’aspect jungle et moiteur du titre. Un titre avec paroles dada post-rap engagé (« Fêtes sanglantes ») et le quasi tube rétro « Nextclub » offrent des pauses dont le décalage peine cependant à faire sens. Album tendu et souvent régénérant, ce Back from the Jungle of Ice s’appréhendera davantage comme une sélection d’idées et de supports qu’on peut sentir en attente d’achèvement, troublants néanmoins dans leur capacité à évoquer. La musique sourde et répétitive maintient une tension, déjouant le minimalisme par son jeu sur les temps forts, bousculant le confort par des sonorités parfois agressives (« Back from the Jungle ») ou en jouant du son de jeu d’arcade (« Deep in the Jungle »), pour donner un sens à l’aspect glacé proposé en antithèse dans le titre.
