Album
Rated R also known on vinyl as Rated X is the second studio album by American rock band Queens of the Stone Age, released on June 6, 2000 by Interscope Records. It was the band's first album for the label, as well as their first to feature bassist Nick Oliveri and vocalist Mark Lanegan. Rated R was a critical and commercial success and became the band's breakthrough album, peaking at number 54 in the UK and eventually being certified gold by the BPI. Two singles were released from the album: The. Rated R is a 2000 album by Queens of the Stone Age, containing the first appearance of former Screaming Trees vocalist Mark Lanegan, and the first significant appearance of Nick Oliveri, read in 2000, Rated R was Queens of the Stone Ages first true breakthrough to the mainstream, expanding on the heavy desert-rock sound with instrumentation such as vibraphone, acoustic guitars, and horns and introducing multiple vocalists being Mark Lanegan and Nick Oliveri, who also played bass on the record. In 2010, Homme released a deluxe version of Rated R for the tenth anniversary of the albums release. The second disc contains B-sides and a recording of the bands 2000 performance at Reading Festival. Rated R Q&A. The lyrics of Feel Good Hit of the Summer consist entirely of a one-line list of recreational drugs that Josh Homme rattles off over and over, a gag that gets pretty tiresome by the end of the song and certainly doesn't need the reprise that follows In the Fade. Fortunately, the rest of the material is up to snuff. R is mellower, trippier, and more arranged than its predecessor, making its point through warm fuzz-guitar tones, ethereal harmonies, vibraphones, horns, and even the odd steel drum. Its singles are Feel Good Hit Of The Summer, Lost Art of Keeping a Secret and Monsters in the Parasol. After touring for the debut album, Queens of the Stone Age , the band started working on the second album. It was initially called Queens of the Stone Age II and a lot of the lyrics contained drug references especially Feel Good Hit of the Summer. Avoiding the Parental Advisory. The heaviness still comes grinding out of Quick and to the Pointless. But the inclusion of Screaming Trees singer Mark Lanegan adds a bluesy soulfulness to the grooves and the fuzztones and expanded arrangements make for a band going far beyond the stoner rock roots of Kyuss.
