TerrorVision is the tenth studio album by Belgian death metal band Aborted, released on September 21, 2018 via Century Media Records. It is the first album to feature bassist Stefano Franceschini, and the last album with guitarist Mendel Bij De Leij. On February 21, 2018, the band finished the writing process for the album. The album was recorded at Kohlekeller Studios and produced by Kristian Kohle Kohlmannslehner, who previously worked with the band's Termination Redux EP, Retrogore and Bathos EP. Aborted's latest album feels supercharged, but sometimes in favour of aspects less suitable to the band's musical intentions. The aforementioned Squalor Opera may be a speedy, frenzied listen, but the vocal performance at times tends to be dodgy and too high in the mix, marring the general precision of the guitar work and thus leading to a muddy result. Exquisite Covinous Drama takes a while to build into something both accessible and violent, but in the end too much time taken means that the instrumentation isn't effective enough to justify a five minute. Still, for those who need a refresher, this Belgium-based band has been around since 1995 and released around nine full-lengths and a substantial amount of EPs, demos, and splits. If one were to trace the evolution of the band through its many line-up changes, horror-themed music and album art, and brutal approach to death metal, its satisfying to hear a progression that not only manifests itself in the riff writing and diversity in vocal styles, but also the core structure of many of the songs on TerrorVision.
