Acid King is a cough-syrupy, fuzzed-out paean to retro stoner rock, plodding heavily through two tracks while showcasing Lori S' Joan Jett-as-a-satanic-witch vocals. On Dale's side, Altamont is a more up-tempo, rock-oriented trio, with roots in both the Southern side as well as in bare-boned bands like the Obsessed. Of the two, Altamont is the more musically engaging, and Dale Crover's guitar playing is surprisingly adept. Though the Crovers split as a couple, both bands continued to release other albums. It was formed in 1993 by frontwoman Lori S. drummer Joey Osbourne and bassist Peter Lucas. Acid King have since recorded four studio albums and two EPs with a series of bassists. The band's name was inspired by the crimes of Ricky Kasso, who murdered his friend Gary Lauwers in Northport, New York on June 19, 1984.
