An Awesome Wave is the debut album by English indie rock band alt-J, released on 25 May 2012 through Infectious. The album includes the singles MatildaFitzpleasure, Breezeblocks and Tessellate. It peaked at number thirteen on the UK Albums Chart, and also charted in Belgium, France, Netherlands and Switzerland. An Awesome Wave won the 2012 British Barclaycard Mercury Prize, and in 2013 was named Album of the Year at the Ivor Novello Awards. The title is a reference to a quote from the 2000. An Awesome Wave. Released May 25, 2012. An Awesome Wave Tracklist. Intro Lyrics. In keeping with the plethora of references to works of art, film and literature to be found in the lyrics of the album, its title is a phrase taken from the 1991 book American Psycho. The artwork on the cover of An Awesome Wave is a radar satellite image of the Ganges river delta. The European Space Agency reported on the popularity of this image: They were up against a deadline so they resorted to googling delta for inspiration around the symbol of their name. Named after the keystroke for making a delta i. triangle sign on a Mac by holding down the Alt and J keys, the Leeds, Englandbased trio Alt-J is inspired by the symbols mathematical definition of change. The Cambridge-based pop band's been described as the new Radiohead, but that tag ultimately says more about lowered standards. The main claim for innovation on Alt-J's debut, An Awesome Wave, is that there's a lot going on. The notion of a male vocal that's halfway between Macy Gray and a goose gibbering over beats discarded from Eskimo Snow- era WHY is certainly a complex notion. Sometimes they sound like Bombay Bicycle Club playing in a submarine. This item:An Awesome Wave by alt-J Audio CD . In Stock. Ships from and sold by . This Is All Yours by alt-J Audio CD . Musically, the album is phenomenal. The group draws from a wide range of influences. Genre: Art Pop. An Awesome Wave washes over its beached listeners, pleasantly cooling them for a second, then making its retreat back into an ocean of sameness. Full Review. Best of 2012. Worst of 2012. Album's awesome. Feedback appreciated Observer Staff Reviewer September 24th 2012. Inevitably, this whole persona spills over into their music, yet even in its most elaborate moments An Awesome Wave proves a strangely listenable affair. Dug this heavily on first listen, yet it's so dense that even after a couple of listens I'm discovering new tasty little parts I really like. Pretty awesome band SmurkinGherkin September 28th 2012
