Martin opens with Bill Holman's superb arrangement of Alec Wilder's I'll Be Around, scored for big ban. When I started looking at Andy Martin's solo work, I saw this CD and blew past it. I didn't know who the other guy on the cover was, and wanted to hear just Andy not a duet. I had recently seen Martin play at a small venue, and could see everything he was doing to make his beautiful music. At the time I didn't realize what an incredible instrument the trombone was, and I learned a lot that night And from a master musician. He first recorded Andy Martin 15 years previously approximately 1989. He started visiting Martin annually while working on this CD. Together they chose the tunes and arrangers.
