Album
The B-52's is the debut album by the Athens, Georgia-based new wave band the B-52's. The kitschy lyrics and mood, and the hook-laden harmonies helped establish a fanbase for the band, who went on to release several chart-topping singles. The B-52's peaked at number 59 on the Billboard 200, and Rock Lobster reached number 56 on the Billboard Hot 100. In 2003, the television network VH1 named The B-52's the 99th greatest album of. The B-52s styled as The B-52's prior to 2008 are an American new wave band formed in Athens, Georgia, in 1976. The original line-up consisted of Fred Schneider vocals, percussion, Kate Pierson vocals, keyboards, Cindy Wilson vocals, percussion, Ricky Wilson guitar, and Keith Strickland drums, guitar, keyboards. Ricky Wilson died from AIDS-related illness in 1985, and Strickland switched from drums to lead guitar. The band also added touring members for albums and live performances. B-52s came out sounding raw and live because Blackwell wanted to accurately capture their electric sound in the rock clubs, which had won rabid fans with its danceability and maximal minimalism. It got them mentioned in the same breath as post-punk heavyweights Devo and Wire as art-punk on its release. On opposite sides of the country, pre-adolescents Dave Grohl and Kurt Cobain both watched the band play Rock Lobster and Dance This Mess Around. They would later refer to the B-52s as formative music and style. The B-52s defied convention with their imaginative songs about aliens, dance crazes like the Shu-ga-loo and the Camel Walk, beachy fun with jellyfish, narwhals and rock lobsters, and loving that burns hot like lava and cracks like Krakatoa. The B-52s also represents a seismic moment in culture this album was embraced at a time when the bands new wave and punk contemporaries gravitated towards a much more somber tone in their music. The band has been praised by everyone from to Nirvana, and its singular style, including the vibrant clothes and beehive hairstyles of Kate Pierson and Ci. To favorites 7 Download album. These songs illustrated that the B-52's' adoration of camp culture wasn't simply affectation - it was a world view capable of turning out brilliant pop singles and, in turn, influencing mainstream pop culture. It's difficult to imagine the endless kitschy retro fads of the '80s and '90s without the B-52's pointing the way, but The B-52's isn't simply an historic artifact - it's a hell of a good time. Track Listing. The B-52's are an American rock band that formed in 1976 in Athens, Georgia, United States. A major part of the new wave scene, the band started out as Fred Schneider vocals, Kate Pierson vocals, organ, Cindy Wilson vocals, bongos, Ricky Wilson guitar, and Keith Strickland drums. After Ricky Wilson died in 1985, Strickland replaced him as a guitarist. They're perhaps best known for their 1978 single Rock Lobster and their 1989 pop smash Love Shack.
