Schnabel re-recorded 4 and 5 in 1942 with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra under Frederick Stock, Piano Concerti 4 & 5 a Jew and far-seeing, Schnabel left Germany in 1933, first to settle in England, then, in 1939, in the US, obtaining citizenship in 1944, and again 2 to 5 why not 1 I don't know with the Philharmonia under. Allegro moderato 11. The Austrian pianist Artur Schnabel was the first pianist to record all of Ludwig van Beethoven's 32 piano sonatas. The recordings were made in Abbey Road Studios in London on a C. Bechstein grand piano from 1932 to 1935, seven years after electrical recording was invented. Originally recorded on 78 rpm phonograph records for the His Master's Voice HMV recording label, the recordings have since been reissued numerous times on both LP and CD.
