Big Drill Car is a punk rock group from Costa Mesa, California, formed in 1987. While the group never gained a mainstream audience, they provided an influence on their contemporaries most notably ALL, Chemical People and Dag Nasty alongside they are considered early pioneers of melodic hardcore. Big Drill Car released an EP, Small Block, in 1988 before being signed to Cruz Records owned by former Black Flag guitarist Greg Ginn and releasing two studio albums. Big Drill Car was a poppunk group from Huntington Beach, California. Frank Daly vocalsand Mark Arnold guitarwere in the seminal Orange County, CA punk rock band MIA. They actually formed Big Drill Car during the last days of MIA to have fun and play some covers and originals that they had written that were not MIA type songs. They were a very hard working, hard touring band. Touring the US and Canada many times. Big Drill Car regularly played with ALL and the Chemical People. Small Block is the debut EP of the Huntington Beach pop punk band Big Drill Car, released in 1988 on their own Varient Records label and again in 1990 on Cruz Records. To save money on mastering, Big Drill Car placed all six tracks on the A-side of the record, not only to let the B-side remain shiny and smooth, but also to save listeners the annoyance of having to flip the record over after seven minutes.
