Bill Deal & the Rhondels were formed in 1959 in Portsmouth, Virginia, crossing blue-eyed soul and beach music. They had three hit singles in 1969, May I U. 39, I've Been Hurt U. 35, What Kind of Fool Do You Think I Am U. Their single, Swingin' Tight reached U. 85 in December 1969. Nothing Succeeds Like Success reached US63 on the charts in the spring of 1970. The band disbanded in 1975, but reformed and still carries on the tradition even after the passing of. In the beach music scene of Virginia in the late '60s, nobody could shake a dance floor like Bill Deal and the Rhondells. A horn-powered band like Blood, Sweat & Tears or Chicago but with an eye firmly scoping out the club floor at all times, Deal and his octet knew their audience cold.
