Album
The Basement Tapes is an album by American singer-songwriter Bob Dylan and the Band. It was released on June 26, 1975, by Columbia Records and is Dylan's 16th studio album. Two-thirds of the album's 24 tracks feature Dylan on lead vocals backed by the Band, and were recorded in 1967, eight years before the album's release, in the lapse between the recording and subsequent release of Blonde on Blonde and John Wesley Harding, during sessions that began at Dylan's house in Woodstock, New York, then moved. The Basement Tapes Raw, like the original 75 release, blends brilliant performances with pure curiosities. Whats remarkable, though, are how many beautiful, emotionally daunting moments came into being during these rather informal sessions. One Too Many Mornings , previously a near-whispered, softly strummed cut from 1964s The Times They Are a-Changin, transforms into a full-bodied moment of clarity with the deft touch of bassist Rick Dankos vocal harmonies, Hudsons floating organ, and Robbie Robertsons warm, affirming guitar. The Basement Tapes: Raw rights this wrong, stripping away the excess overdubs and excising the ten Band songs - a process which includes handing some of the tunes back over to Bob, including a wildly careening version of Don't Ya Tell Henry - and then adding in all the major Dylan originals missing from the 1975 LP . Whereas the 1975 double-album The Basement Tapes had been prepared by Robbie Robertson and Rob Fraboni in an attempt to make the recordings sound like a finished product, the intention of this Bootleg series is to present them in their informal, homemade state. Garth Hudson had recorded the sessions on a stereo open-reel tape machine with the intention of mixing them to mono, and both the 1975 and 2014 versions sound mono, whether they are or not
