Bob Dylan Format: Audio CD. I wouldn't be able to go below four stars for a Bob Dylan album because there's always some form of brilliance to be found. This is certainly not the best of albums but it goes a long way in capturing a certain time in America's history. As the score to Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid, it is incredible and after all it is a soundtrack so naturally it works best alongside the film. If you haven't seen the film I also recommend that. Listen online and stay in a good mood. Bob Dylan was the source of pop musics unpredictability in the Sixties. Never as big a record-seller as commonly imagined, his importance was first aesthetic and social, and then as an influence. In that light, the original soundtrack of Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid is an extension of its myth-destroying predecessor Self-Portrait, a record which further eliminates the possibility of anyone placing Bob Dylan on a pedestal. It is every bit as inept, amateurish and embarrassing as the earlier album. And it has all the earmarks of a deliberate courting of commercial disaster, a flirtation that is apparently part of an attempt to free himself from previously imposed obligations derived from his audience. Dylans twelfth studio album and his first soundtrack album. It was released for the Sam Peckinpah movie Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid. Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid Q&A
