Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers is the debut album by the band of the same name, released on November 9, 1976 by Shelter Records. The album was recorded and mixed at the Shelter Studio in Hollywood, California. Initially following its release, the album received little attention in the United States. Following a British tour, it climbed to No. 24 on the UK albums chart and the single Anything That's Rock 'n' Roll became a hit in the UK. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers recently completed a summer tour with three nights at the Hollywood Bowl. The trek marked the bands 40th anniversary and found him playing rarely played deep cuts like their first albums opener, Rockin Around With You, and a selection of Wildflowers cuts. It was intended to be his last trip around the country. He told Rolling Stone, though, that it wasnt his intention to quit playing. The following year, just as the band was about to set out on a tour supporting Bob Dylan, Pettys house burned down with arson being suspected destroying most of his possessions. His wife, Jane Benyo, and two daughters were able to escape.
