Album

Universal Language is a 1977 album by the Southern soul band Booker T. the M. The album was recorded for Asylum Records, following the demise of Stax Records, of which the M. s were an integral element, in 1975. The album was dedicated to M. s drummer Al Jackson, Jr. who was murdered in 1975 the remaining members recruited Willie Hall to replace him on this album. The group would not record another album for seventeen years, returning in 1994 with That's the Way It Should Be. Booker T. s are an American instrumental R&Bfunk band that was influential in shaping the sound of Southern soul and Memphis soul. The original members of the group were Booker T. Jones organ, piano, Steve Cropper guitar, Lewie Steinberg bass, and Al Jackson Jr. In the 1960s, as members of the house band of Stax Records, they played on hundreds of recordings by artists including Wilson Pickett, Otis Redding, Bill Withers, Sam & Dave, Carla Thomas, Rufus Thomas, Johnnie.
