Album
Buena Vista Social Club is the debut album by the eponymous ensemble of Cuban musicians directed by Juan de Marcos González and American guitarist Ry Cooder. It was recorded at Havana's EGREM studios in March 1996 and released on September 16, 1997, on World Circuit. The third album, Buena Vista Social Club was released in June 1997 and has since come to be regarded as a classic, selling 8 million copies worldwide. Juan de Marcos González, the founder of the Afro Cuban All Stars and Sierra Maestra, had a long cherished dream of recording the music of Cubas golden era, the 1940s and 1950s, with the original musicians of that time. Buena Vista Social Club is both the name given to this extraordinary pool of musicians and the album, recorded in just six days in Havanas 1950s vintage EGREM studios. It was clear from the atmosphere of the recording sessions that something very special was taking place. The original Buena Vista Social Club album was recorded for World Circuit Records over six days at the vintage EGREM studios in Havana. Released in 1997, the album went on to become a worldwide phenomenon, selling over Vista Social Club - AMPai Sound. Buena Vista Social Club is an ensemble of Cuban musicians established in 1996 to revive the music of pre-revolutionary Cuba. The project was organized by World Circuit executive Nick Gold, produced by American guitarist Ry Cooder and directed by Juan de Marcos González. They named the group a read more. This album is named after a members-only club that was opened in Havana in pre-Castro times, a period of unbelievable musical activity in Cuba. While bandleader Desi Arnaz became a huge hit in the States, several equally talented musicians never saw success outside their native country, and have had nothing but their music to sustain them during the Castro reign. Album 1997 14 Songs. 4: Buena Vista Social Club, Cooder was looking for the old stuff - storysongs handed down through generations, rhythms and melodies that were popular before the revolution became a glimmer in young Fidel Castros eye. Aiming for the front-porch-casual feeling of traditional Cuban sextets, Cooder gathered a group of active and semiretired artists, including magical vocalists Compay Segundo and Ibrahim Ferrer, to revisit the lovelorn ballads, patriotic hymns and gentle son-based dance numbers heard in swank Havana lounges as far back as the 1920s.
