Burt Freeman Bacharach ˈbækəræk BAK-ə-rak born May 12, 1928 is an American composer, songwriter, record producer, and pianist who has composed hundreds of pop songs from the late 1950s through the 1980s, many in collaboration with lyricist Hal David. A six-time Grammy Award winner and three-time Academy Award winner, Bacharach's songs have been recorded by more than 1,000 different artists. As of 2014, he had written 73 US and 52 UK Top 40 hits. He is considered one of the most important. While Blue Bacharach originally had 14 tracks, this version has been whittled down to 12 tracks, nine of which are repeats. The three newly added songs, The April Fools by Earl Klugh, One Less Bell to Answer by Stanley Jordan, and Any Day Now by Lou Rawls, were recorded in 1976, 1986, and 1990, respectively, undermining the overall continuity of the '60s-based arrangements. The homage to Burt Bacharach in the Blue Note Plays series is an excellent collection that spans recordings made from 1964-1990. Bacharach is one of the most distinctive of our modern pop composers. One can easily identify his distinctive melodies.
