Torch is singer-songwriter Carly Simon's eleventh album, and tenth studio album, released in 1981. It was Simon's first album devoted to standards, namely torch songs, relating unrequited love or rejection. The album also features one Simon original, From the Heart. Special priceless thanks to Warren Bernhardt and Hugh McCracken for once again playing Santa Claus. Produced by Mike Mainieri Recorded & Mixed by Scott Litt at Power Station, NYC Second Engineer: Garry Rindfuss. Carly Simon slightly anticipated the trend toward contemporary pop singers by turning to pop standards here, singing songs like I Got It Bad and That Ain't Good and Body and Soul. The theme, of course, was romantic torment, and it was expressed no better than on the final track, a new song from Stephen Sondheim's then-upcoming musical Merrily We Roll Along called Not a Day Goes By that Simon delivered with heartbreaking conviction.
