Cheval Sombre is the project of New Yorkbased musician Christopher Porpora. On this release he produces three tracks of hazy, effevescent beauty. The spaced out and velveteen love note I sleep is a mind mind frying slice of chilled out lunar pop, a succulent somnambulant babe sparse and minimalist in texture, dappled delicately by the merest of lazily woven repetitive acoustic strums set across hypno-orbiting trance like drone swirls that draw its reference points from the hazily glazed latter work of the Spacemen 3 . He's joined here by Matthew Lyndon Wells on electric guitar and keyboard, Nick Kramer on lap-steel guitar and iPad, Russell Simins on drums and Gillian Rivers on viola. Now playing: No Doubt Don't Speak. Debut album by Cheval Sombre. One-man band Cheval Sombre emerged in the early 2000s, writing and recording songs in an apartment studio on the Hudson River, NY. After sending initial recordings to Sonic Boom of Spacemen 3, Spectrum, recording sessions with Sonic took place in March 2006, in Jersey City, NJ. Further sessions followed over the next two years, both in New York and in Rugby, with guest musicians Dean Wareham & Britta Phillips. To date Cheval Sombre has released three UK-only 7 singles included here, all of which sold out immediately and are now collectors items. It was released on 7 April 2017 through Columbia Records. It features production work primarily from Al Shux, who has previously worked with Banks, Birdy and Shura.
