Even though most of these songs don't come close to being as good as the other songs that Carole King was writing at this time, there are three tracks that are so great that it makes the whole album worth it. The original version of The Byrds' Wasn't Born to follow, the originals of Blood Sweat and Tears' Hi Di Ho and Snow Queen. Too bad the album wasn't loaded with more tracks like these ones. The City were formed by Carole King following her relocation to Los Angeles and divorce from Gerry Goffin. Still in her mid-twenties, she was half of one of the most successful songwriting partnerships of that or any time. Even if it were terrible, Now That Everythings Been Said would be at least interesting. It is very far from terrible. And The City were not merely Carole King plus two guitarist Danny Kortchmar and bassist Charles Larkey both had form with New York proto-punk yahoos The Fugs. Kortchmar would subsequently write andor produce with Jackson Browne, Don Henley and Neil Young Larkey would become the second Mr King. We all know the Carole King who wrote some of the biggest hits of the 60s, from Will You Love Me Tomorrow to Pleasant Valley Sunday, via The Locomotion and You Make Me Feel Like A Natural Woman. We also know the singer-songwriter behind Tapestry, the album that launched King as a solo singer in her own right.
