Loving Vincent is a 2017 experimental animated biographical drama film about the life of the painter Vincent van Gogh, and, in particular, about the circumstances of his death. It is the first fully painted animated feature film. The film, written and directed by Dorota Kobiela and Hugh Welchman, is a Polish-UK co-production, funded by the Polish Film Institute, and partially through a Kickstarter campaign. Loving Vincent is the world's first fully painted feature film produced by Oscar-winning studios Breakthru Films and Trademark Films. Mansells compositions for Loving Vincent are filled with the swell of mournful strings balanced with delicate, deliberate countermelodies. A perfect companion to the story of suspicion and grief, the score enriches the viewing experience while also succeeding as its own distinct, artistic composition.
