The sole album from Country Funk's original incarnation, released in 1970, has confused a certain number of latter-day listeners since it's not especially funky at least not in the James Brown or George Clinton sense of the word, and while there's a noticeable country-rock undertow in this music, there's just as much semi-psychedelic fuzz. I would bet the Country Funk album was received the same way albums by bands like Starry Eyed And Laughing were. Just hangers on. Copycats wearing their hearts on their sleeve. Be it allegiances to Byrds or Beatles, Crosby, Stills, Nash or Young. I never really looked into it. I've always just kind of accepted this record for what it is. A good solid listen.
