Black Eyed Man doesn't initially knock you out like The Trinity Session or a lot of the Open album does but it reveals its strengths over repeated listenings. Margo Timmons' voice remains a treasure and the songs here are all well performed, very visual lyrically, and take you to another place. A great place. Black-Eyed Man is more conventional and polished, and has more of a Townes Van ZandtLyle Lovett feel overall, than the Trinity Session but the songwriting is as good.
