Album
Creedence Clearwater Revival is the debut studio album by American rock band Creedence Clearwater Revival, released on May 28, 1968. While Suzie Q proved to be a hit, the band had played for years as the Golliwogs in the early 1960s, releasing numerous singles before achieving success in the pop world. In 1967, Saul Zaentz bought Fantasy Records and offered the band a chance to record a full-length album on the condition that they change their name. Having never liked 'the Golliwogs', in part. The reissue liner notes state that while Susie Q proved to be a hit, the band had played for years as the Golliwogs in the early 1960s, releasing numerous singles before achieving success in the pop world. While the band did gain success with their chart debut, critics initially denied the band respect. The album was remastered and reissued on 180 Gram Vinyl by Analogue Productions in 2006. But nobody had a 1969 like Creedence Clearwater Revival. In the span of less than 12 months, the San Francisco band released three classic albums. Bayou Country was the first to arrive in early January, followed by Green River in August and finally Willie and the Poor Boys in November. The band also played the history-making Woodstock festival a few weeks after Green River's release and also started putting together songs for its fifth LP overall, Cosmo's Factory, which came out in July 1970, spent nine weeks at No. 1 and spawned two more singles that stalled at No. 2, Travelin' Band and Lookin' Out My Back Door. Released in the summer of 1968 - a year after the summer of love, but still in the thick of the Age of Aquarius - Creedence Clearwater Revival's self-titled debut album was gloriously out-of-step with the times, teeming with John Fogerty's Americana fascinations. While many of Fogerty's obsessions and CCR's signatures are in place - weird blues I Put a Spell on You, Stax R&B Wilson Pickett's Ninety-Nine and a Half, rockabilly Susie Q, winding instrumental interplay, the swamp sound, and songs for The Working Man&quo. On 50th anniversary of Woodstock, the Creedence Clearwater Revival set from the festival is finally released and it highlights what was the best American rock band of their time. CCR owned 1969 with three classic studio albums and now this new live set adds to the legacy. A portion of the 400,000 concertgoers who attended the Woodstock Music and Arts Festival held on a 600-acre pasture near Bethel, N. on Aug. It seems like everything that could be known about Woodstock the godmother of all rock festivals marking its 50th anniversary this month - has been documented, rehashed and repackaged to death
