Album
Cymbals Eat Guitars were an indie rock band from Staten Island, New York, founded by high school friends Joseph D'Agostino and Matthew Miller. The band's name comes from a Lou Reed quote describing the sound of The Velvet Underground. Cymbals Eat Guitars was founded in 2007 by guitarist Joseph DAgostino and drummer Matthew Miller, who both graduated from Southern Regional High School in Manahawkin in 2006. Neil Berenholz, guitarist Matt Cohen, and keyboardist Daniel Baer joined the band after. Genre: Indie Rock. Rather than playing it safe and simply re-creating their 2009 debut, Cymbals Eat Guitars decided to tweak their sound in a moodier direction on their sophomore album, Lenses Alien. Focusing on mining melody from discord, the bands follow-up combines the jangly harmony of Archers of Loaf with the slick precision of the Dismemberment Plan, pinning listeners under a Wall of Sound in songs like Rifle Eyesight Proper Name before letting them explore the wide-open spaces of The Current. And it wasnt exactly for pure quality reasons, though pure quality it was, but rather because it was an answer to every Indie Purist's prayer , who dreaded the day when Indie Rock became formatted, predictable, tamed, manned, neutered, spaded, and subdued. While Why There Are Mountains was plagued by a lack of restraint and tension, Lenses Alien has enough of both to make up for any grievances of their debut. Lenses Alien is, in summation, the complete statement the debut never was. Lenses Alien is the second album by the indie rock band Cymbals Eat Guitars, released August 30, 2011 on Barsuk Records. Lenses Alien was recorded in Brooklyn and took only 15 days to record. According the an interview with Stereogum, the albums sound was influenced by Spiritualized, Bedhead and slowcore. In July 2011, the band premiered the first track from the album: Rifle Eyesight Proper Name as a free MP3 download. On August 23, 2011, the album was streamed in its entirety on Spin. The album cover was originally a collage that the band did as a homage to an artist the band admired. Listen free to Cymbals Eat Guitars Lenses Alien The Current. 1 track 2:07. Lenses Alien is the second full length album by Staten Island indie rock band Cymbals Eat Guitars. It was released on August 28th, 2011. This is the first album by Cymbals Eat Guitars that was written as a complete band Why There Are Mountains was mostly composed by lead singer and guitarist Joseph D'Agostino, while Lenses Alien features a stable lineup. Lenses Alien features less lead guitarvocal-centric songs than the debut, and more of a focus on the full band sound. Influences noted by members of the ba. This go around, Cymbals Eat Guitars have taken that raw element and polished their sound to make it something truly admirable. Out with the tinny-sounding guitars and shaky vocals of the recorded in my parents garage aesthetic, and in with some very deliberate soundscapes and brilliantly configured vocals. Its the sound of a band that has come into its own and realizes it fully. Hows this for ambitious Lenses Alien begins with Rifle Eyesight Proper Name , an eight-and-a-half-minute opener that spans traditional garage rock, sheer noise rock, and perfect shoegaze with a conclusion that. Lenses Alien bears traces of Modest Mouse, Superchunk, Cap'n Jazz, Slint, and others, but the songs exude a craftsmanship that simple re-appropriation couldn't achieve. The band may be trying too hard to emphasize that by opening the album with an epic track, but the point isn't lost. Read full review
