And one of the groups that successfully made the transition from horn funk to synth funk was the Dazz Band, whose 1982 smash, Let It Whip, helped usher in the synth funk era. Other hits followed, including Swoop I'm Yours and Joystick. But by 1985, the Dazz Band's popularity was fading - and 1985's Hot Spot, their last album for Motown, was considered a commercial disappointment. This is a mixed review due to the fact that the composition of the original Hot Spot album consisted of only eight of the 13 tracks on the expanded CD. The title track was a guitar-driven, percussive dance hit, which unfortunately marked the end of the band on the Motown label. The only other notable track on the original album that never charted was a ballad titled When You Need Roses. Two out of eight tracks is a flop of an album.
