Within the Realm of a Dying Sun is the third studio album by Australian band Dead Can Dance. It was released on 27 July 1987 by 4AD. By this time, Dead Can Dance were predominantly a duo of Lisa Gerrard and Brendan Perry, along with Peter Ulrich, after the departure of Scott Rodger and James Pinker in 1987. These instruments weren't adequate to express. With its two sides split between Perry and Gerrard's vocal efforts, Within the Realm of a Dying Sun serves as both a display for the ever more ambitious band and a chance for the two to individually demonstrate their awesome talents. Dead Can Dance is an Australian musical project formed in 1981 in Melbourne by Lisa Gerrard and Brendan Perry. The band relocated to London, England, in May 1982. Damn, it's happening again, once more my writing has adapted to the kind of music. Easily the darkest album produced by Dead Can Dance and at a listening temperature of -20, the best by a long shot. The vocals are melancholic, resplendent, haunting and decidedly uneasy. Review Summary: A very atmospheric, dark and haunting album with incredible singing and composition that proves that the 80's were not totally rubbish for music. Within the Realm of a Dying Sun is one of the most atmospheric albums of all time. The music is much like the ominous title and mysterious album cover: dark, haunting and eerie. While it may at first seem minimalist, theres a lot going on beneath the surface. Ascribing a genre to Dead Can Dance, and especially this album, is very difficult. There are elements of neo-classical and World music influences, but also traces of the
