In Concert is a live double album, recorded by Derek and the Dominos in October 1970 at the Fillmore East and released January 1973. Six of the album's nine tracks were later included on the 1994 album Live at the Fillmore. The three songs not included are Why Does Love Got to Be So Sad, Let It Rain, and Tell the Truth. Live at the Fillmore also includes these songs, although they are from different sets than the ones appearing here. In the aftermath of Cream's bombastic sonic maelstrom, Eric Clapton sought gentler refuge in the gospelly R&B of Delaney & Bonnie, from whose ranks he eventually acquired the rhythm section for Derek and the Dominos. But it was the addition of slide-guitarist Duane Allman that would ensure the epochal status of the Layla album. Derek and the Dominos formed after Eric Clapton, Bobby Whitlock, Carl Radle and Jim Gordon worked on George Harrison's first post-Beatles album, All Things Must Pass. They got together at Clapton's house in England and started writing songs and playing small clubs. Bobby Whitlock explained in his Songfacts interview: We toured all over England. The album came out on 9 November 1970, and in made the US charts later that month, 21 November, entering at , going on to peak at , probably not as high a placing as many might guess. In the UK Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs failed to chart at all on first release it finally made on the album charts when it was reissued in 2011. The review in Britains Melody Maker was somewhat reserved in its praise for the album, stating that If you do judge Derek and the Dominos by Cream standards youll be disappointed.
