Dinosaur is the debut studio album by the alternative rock band Dinosaur Jr. It was released in 1985 on Homestead Records. The album exhibits a folkier side of the band than on future releases, but some of the tracks on the album showed off a much heavier, more hardcore punk-based side to the band in songs such as Does it Float, Mountain Man, and Bulbs of Passion. Dinosaur is the debut album by Dinosaur Jr. The original name of the band was, in fact, Dinosaur, and that name actually persisted up to the release of their second album, Youre Living All Over Me. However, San Francisco-based jam-rock supergroup The Dinosaurs sued Dinosaur over their name. The band promptly tacked Jr. on the end and their albums had to be recalled and reissued with new cover art. The album title, however, kept their original name intact.
