Eddie Lockjaw Davis was one musician who provided a link from the big band era through to the soul jazz phenomenon of the late 1950s and early 1960s. Volume 2 was the last of Lockjaw Davis' Cookbook albums that I needed to buy, and in many ways I saved the best for last. The tenor saxman and his frequent partner organist Shirley Scott keep things at a slow simmer for this meal, and the results are magical. The only upbeat number is The Broilers and it probably would've been a better fit on Cookbook 3 see my review, with the bonus track Willow Weep For Me a more suitable substitution. Jerome Richardson puts in another memorable shift in the kitchen on his best instrument flute, and the rhythm
