And whilst, for me, Hellbent On Compromise does not quite have the consistently mature and dynamically more varied songwriting of later albums such as the follow-up Gorgeous George or his recent 2013, magnificent Understated, there is certainly enough good stuff here to make it worth seeking out. The album concludes on another 'laid-back highpoint' with Long Time Gone amalgamated with Willie Nelson's Time Of The Preacher, which features some excellent harmonica playing by Simeon Jones reminiscent of Mark Feltham's playing on Talk Talk's Sprit Of Eden, in fact.
