The Night the Light Went On in Long Beach is a 1974 live album by the Electric Light Orchestra ELO recorded on the evening of 12 May 1974 at the Long Beach Auditorium in Long Beach, California its title lampoons The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia by Vicki Lawrence. This live album was intended as the follow-up to On the Third Day, but the original recording was marred by technical issues both on and off the stage. The problems started when the truck carrying the band's equipment broke down. Recorded at Long Beach Auditorium on May 12, 1974, ELO's The Night the Light Went On was a limited release in a handful of countries in the mid-'70s. The show was unusually raw and spirited, and the resulting performance is ferocious, like little else the band ever delivered. The material is all rooted in the group's first three albums. Daybreaker, Showdown, and In the Hall of the Mountain King are juxtaposed with 10538 Overture and robust covers of Day Tripper, Orange Blossom Special with a Mik Kaminski solo vi. It would be the only live release of the band until 1998, long after ELO had broke up. ELO's lack of live albums was due to Jeff Lynne's disfavor due to the difficulties of capturing the band's intricate studio sound. If you have the original LP featuring the ugly sci-fi parody cover, you'll understand Lynne's dilemma as it has a very muddy sound. Electric Light Orchestra is a symphonic rock band which formed in Birmingham, England in 1970. The band was formed by Jeff Lynne vocals, guitar, multiple instruments, Roy Wood multiple instruments, vocals, Richard Tandy keyboards, vocals and Bev Bevan drums. Lynne, Wood and Bevan were former members of the psychedelic rock band The Move. The band's lineup would fluctuate throughout its original incarnation, although Lynne, Tandy and Bevan would remain constant members. The Night the Lights Went On est un album live d'Electric Light Orchestra enregistré en 1974 à Long Beach.
