Album

Spike is the 12th studio album by the British rock singer and songwriter Elvis Costello, and his first since My Aim Is True without the Attractions, released on compact disc as Warner Brothers 25848. It was his first album for the label and peaked at No. 5 on the UK Albums Chart. It also reached No. 32 on the Billboard 200 thanks to the single and his most notable American hit, Veronica, which reached No. 19 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 1 on the US Modern Rock chart. The death-row screed of Let Him Dangle, the deceptive anti-Thatcher beauty Tramp the Dirt Down, and the poppy Veronica about Costellos Alzheimers-stricken grandmother all show remarkable songwriterly empathy and depth. This Town. About Spike. After making Blood and Chocolate in 1986, Elvis Costello broke up long time backing band, the Attractions and seemingly disappeared from recording music. There was a near three year gap between Blood and Chocolate and Spike, unusual for the prolific artist. During this time, he wrote songs with Paul McCartney. The hit song Veronica and Pads, Paws, and Claws appeared on the album. Completa la tua Collezione su Elvis Costello. Spike LP, Album. Warner Bros. Records, Warner Bros. 925 848-1, WX 238. Excerpt from 2001 reissue liner notes: Away from London, after being a bandleader, out of the cold shadow of the Black Rock, I wrote these songs. In a Dublin hotel room, in a ship's cabin off the coast of Greenland, on a summer's afternoon in a house next to windmill as the English countryside rolled down to the coast. Some of them came out of the newspapers and everyday anger Tramp the dirt down, . This town. Coal Train Robberies. One of them came out of old newspapers and ugly arguments. Elvis Costello once described Spike as basically a comedy record. Released on Feb. 14, 1989, this 12th studio album was born of the idea that things are, have become, so absurd that laughter is the only response, he told NME. Some people have enough and reach for a hand grenade, I put it into my songs. BBC TV special aired 22089. Interview clips and live acoustic performances of songs from Costello's 'Spike' album. Part 4 features Pads Paws & Claws
