Flans are an all-female Mexican music group, which enjoyed popularity from the mid-1980s to the early 1990s. Its members were the singers Ivonne Margarita Guevara García, Ilse María Olivo Schweinfurth and Irma Angélica Hernández Ochoa. They were generally known as Ivonne b. 31 October 1963, Ilse b. 27 November 1965, and Mimí b. 29 December 1962. The three girls were initially cast in the mid-1980s for a TV show to be called Fans, which was to feature chats and sing-alongs with guest stars. Flans' self-titled debut was a shot of sugar directly into the vein of Latin American pop. The sweetest track here is Bazar, a melancholy jam that suggests what ABBA might have sounded like if they had sung in Spanish and lasted further into the '80s, but a few others are right up there. No Controles is uptempo Hi-NRG, and Cerveza de Bote builds toward a body-quaking breakdown. Respite comes with Ay Amor, a slow jam perfectly suited to the awkward charms of teenage dancing.
