Album

From a Second Story Window sometimes abbreviated as FASSW was a mathcore band that formed in 1999 as Aphasia in Ohio. By 2003, they had changed their name to From a Second Story Window. The band's first EP was self-released as The Cassandra Complex in 2003. It was repackaged and re-released by Black Market Activities as Not One Word Has Been Omitted in 2004. In 2006, the band released Delenda, their first full-length album under Black Market Activities and distributed by Metal Blade. From A Second Story Window are somewhat of an anomaly to me. Their first album, Not One Word Has Been Omitted, is fairly strict and linear in its grindcore approach. Many find this album to be a sort of grind classic, but I can be easily annoyed by the somewhat sludgy production and scratchy, under-developed vocals. Delenda boasts one of the more aurally appealing and enticing intros to an album I have yet to hear with its first track, Acknowledgement. The deeply schizoid second album by experimental metal act From a Second Story Window, Delenda reveals frustrating glimpses of a band that reverts back to cookie-cutter thrash metal far too often in between passages that reveal a far greater set of influences. The album starts with Acknowledgement, which features a long passage of tuned percussion that almost sounds like a gamelan, but that leads directly into the tired thrash of Soft Green Fields.
