Two saxophone stars, the doughty German Peter Brötzmann and the Chicago attack dog Ken Vandermark, feature in an augmented Full Blast trio, their presence usually signifying relentless pulverisation ahead. But the percussionist Michael Wertmuller has written a score, shadowing Gil Evans arrangements for Miles Davis Sketches Of Spain, and fusing jazz composition and noisy improvisation. Full Blast is frequently perceived as a Peter Brötzmann band, because the saxophonist's powerful blowing and maniacal stamina are major factors in its over-the-top sound. But this live album reveals the group to be in fact very much a collaborative project, with each member making equal contributions. Furthering the democratic process is the inclusion of friends, taking Full Blast from a trio to a one-off sextet. This is a group that has always boasted a large sound for three people after all, Brötzman's nickname is Superlungs. Full Blast is the ninth album eighth major release and tenth record overall by MC Hammer. The album was recorded in 2003 and released in early 2004 on Hammer's Full Blast label. Produced by Hammer himself, the album was not well received both critically or commercially, nor charted or spawned any hit singles.
