UF's radio station did a Sunday morning jazz show and I heard this entire album played back in 1983 when I was a freshman. Soft Shoulder. During the last period of his life, multi-instrumentalist Victor Feldman recorded often with his somewhat commercial and often funky Generation Band. This set originally on Nautilus and reissued on CD by TBA was one of the best recordings by the group due to some particularly catchy melodies especially the witty Leroy, Locomotive and Soft Shoulder and some fiery solos from Tom Scott mostly on alto. Soft Shoulder approaches the listener in unfolding waves of undulating distortion. Thin Red Straw Move a New Way does the same thing, but in a slightly more structured way which I have to admit, I really, really, really like.
