George Carlin's HBO stand up, What am I doing in New Jersey. Which was released on my birthday and one of my favorite stand up's of all Am I Doing in New Jersey is the 12th album and sixth HBO special by American comedian George Carlin. It was recorded at the Park Performing Arts Center in Union City, New Jersey for an HBO special and released on August 15, 1988. In a November 17, 1988 interview on Late Night with David Letterman, Carlin revealed the title was going to be What in God's Name Am I Doing in New Jersey and when about to explain the title change, Letterman asks about Carlin's childhood, a topic which the interview. George Carlin sums up his essence on the track Reagan's Gang, Church People, and American Values: I'm the first to say its a great country, but its a strange culture He rants about preventative detainment, censorship, and the paradoxes of the Right to Life movement - all of which is biting, but not very funny. Then, about seven minutes in, he gets started. Carlin protects no sacred cows, and quickly moves through cracks on bulimia, banning artificial sweeteners but not tobacco because a rat died, and other peculiar American quirks. Still, I'd recommend giving the whole album a once-over - or more. I wouldn't necessarily rank 'New Jersey' up there with, say, 'Back in Town', but I definitely think it's worth picking up.
