The Mothership Connection - Live from Houston is an album by George Clinton and Parliament-Funkadelic. It was released on the Capitol Records label in the spring of 1986. The Mothership Connection - Live from Houston is divided evenly between studio and live performances. Side one consists of a live recording made at a concert at The Summit in Houston, Texas, on October 31, 1976. Side two is made up of previously released material from Clinton's solo albums, including the hit single Atomic Dog. Taped on October 31, 1976, these seldom-seen performances at the Houston Summit represent Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic in their '70s prime, in the era of their Mothership Connection and The Clones Of Dr. Funkenstein LPs-a rare opportunity for everyone to get their proper dose of. Mothership Connection is patterned closely after last years tongue-in-cheek success, Chocolate City. With little regard for theme or lyric development, Clinton weaves a nonstop rap of nonsensical street jargon Somebody said, Is there funk after deathI said is seven up like a freaked out James Brown. And oddly enough, former Brown sidemen, Maceo Parker and Fred Wesley, make up Parliaments horn section, along with Joe Farrell and the Brecker Brothers. But this album refuses to be taken seriously, except as Clintons parody of modern funk. After all, it was George Clinton who renamed Jam.
