Another Fine Day is Golden Smog's third full-length album. It was released on July 18, 2006. It reached number 95 on the Billboard 200 chart. Golden Smog's lineup was chiefly made up of Kraig Johnson Run Westy Run, Dan Murphy Soul Asylum Jeff Tweedy Wilco and Gary Louris and bassist Marc Perlman both of The Jayhawks. It had been 8 years since 1998's Weird Tales release by the group. In the meantime, the Jayhawks broke up and Soul Asylum went on hiatus. Tweedy's band Wilco had achieved success. In 1998, when Golden Smog released their second full-length album, Weird Tales, they were the premier supergroup of the alt-country movement, featuring key members of two of the scene's biggest acts, Wilco and the Jayhawks, as well as roots-friendly guitarist Dan Murphy from Soul Asylum. Album 2006 15 Songs. Eight years after Weird Tales, Golden Smog shake off the alt-country and delve into more varied sounds with Another Fine Day. Opener You Make It Easy makes that clear with its upbeat but dramatic, driving rock vibe. They hit on New Wave with the hooky Corvette, sculpting a dreamy, all-too-brief chorus, and I Can bounces along with its pumping piano riff, channeling The Beatles.
