The album was released on 16 August 2019, the date being announced on 23 April 2019 along with the release of the album's first single, Future Love. The album was produced by English DJ Erol Alkan, which is Ride's second album to be produced by him. The album cover includes three slashes , which is based upon historic graffiti by hobos to indicate an unsafe place. With nothing to prove, This Is Not a Safe Place has the luxury of looking back more explicitly to Rides earlier material. The best tracks here feature the welcome return of the pure shoegaze soundscapes that were largely missing from Weather Diaries: opener . fronts with trip-hop menace before merging with a gauzy shimmer worthy of the Cocteau Twins, epic closer In This Room envelopes its horizons like a gathering rainstorm, and Eternal Recurrence builds into a bittersweet, slow-motion cyclone. Taken on their own, the neo-shoegaze tracks of This Is Not a Safe Place couldve made the strongest EPs in the genres entire catalog. Brothers Four sing one of their most successful songs. rights secured. Along with Green Fields this song secured The Brothers Four's place in Gotta Get out of This Place. As with their previous album, Weather Diaries, Erol Alkan was in the producers chair, and Alan Moulder with Caesar Edmunds took care of the mixing making this the fourth Ride album he has worked on. Gathering influences from sources such as the Jean Michel Basquiat exhibition at the Barbican, and the post punk sound of The Fall and Sonic Youth, Ride have made an album which contains echoes of their earliest days as a band, while bringing these elements into 2019. Burkholder Pleasantly surprised by this album As good as nowhere and going blank again, though different. Favorite track: Fifteen Minutes. Michael Reilly. A musical comedy in the vein of GREASE, THE BLUES BROTHERS and GET SHORTY about a one hit wonder rock star and Hollywood dreamer whose life is falling apart and is up against all odds to make things right.
