It was initially titled Five Pictures of the Grand Canyon. It consists of five movements, each an evocation in tone of a particular scene typical of the Grand Canyon. He is best known for his 1931 five-movement tone poem, Grand Canyon Suite. During the 1920s and 1930s, he went by the name Ferdie Grofé or Ferdy Grofé.
