Going Somewhere. Ken Goodey Took a while to get into this album, but I really like it now. HM, spliced with a number of influences quality musicianship from experienced players, and a great mix of male & female vocals lead, harmony & backing. This record sounds more emotional, more heartfelt to me, especially John Cobbett's vocals on The Day the City Died, which I see as the stand-out song. Led by guitaristlyricist John Cobbett, 17th Street juggles power metal clichés, classic rock melodies, and doom metal breakdowns with equal aplomb, managing to circumvent any kind of eye rolling through sheer determination and earnestness. Key cuts include the weary, vaudevillian The Day the City Died and the blistering title track, the latter of which opens with a pair of crucial duel leads before launching into a brutish mix of Queens of the Stone Age and Starship Troopers-era Yes. 17th Street.
