Harry Taussig's sole, rare album of acoustic guitar instrumentals, issued as a privately pressed LP in 1965, cannot fail to invite comparisons to John Fahey as well as to other guitarists of the era who've been compared to Fahey, like Robbie Basho. Fate Is Only Twice - Harry Taussig. Harry Arthur Taussig alternately appearing as Harry Taussig, Arthur Taussig, or H. Arthur Taussig, born March 31, 1941 is an American physicist, biochemist, collage artist, photographer, film analyst, author, academic, and fingerstyle guitarist. In 1965 he recorded his first solo album, Fate is Only Once, under the name Harry Taussig. Played in a single 45-minute take, the record is partially improvised and, according to Taussig, full of mistakes. Issued on a private label, few copies of the original record existed, making it a collectors item for fans of American primitive guitar and fingerstyle guitar. Blues For Zone VII, 03:22. Recorded in 1965 as a short-run private pressing, this is Taussig's only full-length recording, which has not been previously re-released. Thus Fate Is Only Once has been a long sought after collectible for folk guitar enthusiasts, most of whom by necessity will forever remain empty handed. That is, unless they can be placated by this CD release of Fate Is Only Once by Tompkins Square. It's a terrific album of unassuming folk tunes that deserved to be resuscitated. This album is a good representative from those early years when acoustic steel-string guitar got established as an art form in than accompanying more or less phony folk-songs. and as stated above I find it as an early missing link between Takoma and Kicking Mule. And considered 1965 and all that stuff the remastering is well done so the sound quality is surpisingly good.
