Harry Arthur Taussig born March 31, 1941 is an American fingerstyle guitarist, academic, physicist, biochemist, collage artist, photographer, film analyst and author. Taussig was born and raised in Los Angeles and attended school in Eagle Rock, California. In 1963 he graduated with a BS in physics from the University of California, Berkeley, where he also studied anthropology and music history. This album is a good representative from those early years when acoustic steel-string guitar got established as an art form in than accompanying more or less phony folk-songs. and as stated above I find it as an early missing link between Takoma and Kicking Mule. And considered 1965 and all that stuff the remastering is well done so the sound quality is surpisingly good. Fate Is Only Once is an absolutely beautiful instrumental guitar album, filled with folk, blues, and ragtime tunes. While Harry Taussig's guitar work isn't as technically complex or proficient as that of John Fahey or Leo Kottke there is some similarity to their works from the '60s. Taussig's style is gentler, if anything, and is just plain enjoyable to listen to. The three longest tracks are the most engaging, with the title track, which concludes the album, probably the strongest of the lot.
