Hall of the Mountain Grill is the fourth studio album by space rock band Hawkwind, released in 1974. It is regarded by many critics as a career highlight in studio. The group's fourth studio album, it was the first by a new line-up that included Simon House on synthesizer, Mellotron and electric violin absent were Robert Calvert, who had previously contributed lyrics, vocals and spoken word interludes, and Dik Mik, who provided electronic effects. Do you know any background info about this album Start the wiki. The band's best studio album, coming off of the success of Space Ritual. The group's rock roots are juxtaposed effectively with the swelling synthesizer flourishes and pretentious song ideas, creating the quintessential guitar-oriented space rock record. The highlight was the live recording of You'd Better Believe It, with its crunchy guitars, but nobody minded keyboardman Simon House's languid synthesizer-laden Hall of the Mountain Grill especially as it was followed by the Lemmy-sung Lost Johnny, a great all-out rocker. With their fifth album, 'Hall of the Mountain Grill,' which was released on Sept. 6, 1974, Hawkwind had the unenviable task of following up what is, perhaps, the definitive Hawkwind album, the classic ' Space Ritual. That album, recorded live, presented the band in full flight, in their natural habitat, something their previous three studio efforts were unable to do fully. The man has a point. The album ebbs and flows perfectly as the harder-edged rockers flow seamlessly among the spacier numbers. Things kick off with a genuine classic, 'The Psychedelic Warlords Disappear in Smoke,' From the opening riff through the catchy chorus, it's a welcome invitation to the LP. The album also features one of the coolest album covers of the 70's in my opinion. Long before I ever delved into Hawkwind I had seen this album cover in record bins for years and always thought about picking it up just for the cover alone. Either way I prefer having it here, as I won't buy the compilation Masters of the Universe. Read more. 2 people found this helpful. Only for completionists 1. Review by The Owl PROG REVIEWER. The Warlords of psychedelic hard rock return With Hall Of The Mountain Grill Hawkwind set themselves in stone as masters of their craft. The instrumentals on the album actually feel more like an evil version of Pink Floyd than what Hawkwind usually does. Songs like Winds Of Change and the title cut have a very spaced out feel to them while still keeping the Hawkwind surge of energy. This is just a preview Preview the embedded widget.
