The Living End is a Hüsker Dü live album recorded at various venues in October 1987 but not released until 1994. It spans the band's entire recorded output, from Data Control off Land Speed Record, the band's debut, to a number of songs from the band's last studio album, Warehouse: Songs and Stories. There are also some unreleased tracks and a cover of the Ramones' Sheena Is a Punk Rocker. Stitched together from a variety of shows on the final Hüsker Dü tour in late 1987, The Living End may not be a true representation of the band's sets, but as a collection of tracks by an about-to-crack group still firing on all fours live, it's quite a treat. The mixes are strong, and in some instances clearer and more revelatory than the studio releases. New Day Rising and The Girl Who Lives on Heaven Hill bring the vocals to the front while also making quite the case for Grant Hart's drumming power.
