In the summer of 2012, Payne and his team of audio-painters began recording the album, but during the next two years, according to Paynes site, life waged a brutal war against Jesse and the album. In the spring of this year, they decided to begin a crowdfunding campaign. Over the course of two months, the team raised over 11,000 from fans, friends, and family, making Heirloom possible. This is just the beginning of our story, Payne says. The future remains unwritten. Paynes weath. Birmingham, Alabama singer-songwriter Jesse Payne returns with his newest album Heirloom this week, and his laid-back, rustic, contemplative take on indie, roots, and folk is sure to interest fans of indie and Americana alike. Three years in the making, it's been a torturous haul, but its sumptuous arrangements - a testament to Payne's many collaborators - make this record well worth the long wait. Heirloom is the most personal album I've ever worked on and I am blessed that I was able to make it with people who have become my family, Payne tells PopMatters. Jesse Payne performs his new song Appalachian Trim off his upcoming sophomore LP Heirloom live at Ol Elegante Studios in Birmingham, AL. Produced, Directed.
