Souled Out is the debut studio album by American singer Jhené Aiko. It was released on September 9, 2014, by ArtClub International, ARTium Recordings, and Def Jam Recordings. After leaving Epic Records in 2003, Aiko took a hiatus from her music career and returned in 2011, with the release of her debut mixtape Sailing Souls. and subsequently secured a recording contract with his newly found record label imprint. In an interview with The Fader, Jhene stated the records concept: Its like a path. Youre going to see an evolution by the end of the album, a girl going through heartbreak and being confused, in a dark place, and then enlightened and grown up through these experiences. Its real life. A growing girl. When asked to explain what the lyrical content would be for the album she also had this. In the early 2000s, Jhené Aiko was a B2K associate signed to TUG, the Epic subsidiary operated by Chris Stokes.
