Album
The title of Westward Movement suggests that Jimmie Driftwood's third album is a collection of western or pioneer songs, but in reality it covers a variety of topics similar to his previous efforts. The nearly all-original album has a vague thematic drift, from Kentucky in The Land Where the Blue Grass Grows and The Widders of Bowling Green to traveling songs to evocations of the West, but there is no overarching concept besides Driftwood's superlative storytelling ability. The instrumental palette is a little broader this time around with the addition of banj. Jimmie Driftwood. The Westward Movement. Driftwood is the sixth studio album by Eddi Reader released in the UK on 8 October 2001. Driftwood is also the name of the recording studios, owned by Roy Dodds, where the tracks were all recorded during the same sessions for the previous album Simple Soul. The album has a somewhat unusual status as being almost an album of outtakes although critics and fans regarded it as a bona fide and worthy follow-up album in its own right.
