Arranged By J. Jackson Baritone Saxophone John Marshall 18 Bass Larry Steele Congas Jeff Whittaker Drums Bill Eyden tracks: A1 to A3, B1, B4, Ronny Stephenson tracks: A4, B2, Terry Jenkins tracks: B3 Electric Guitar Terry Smith Engineer Barry Ainsworth Liner to the liner notes, the record represents Jackson's attempts to fuse soul with jazz, and with the aid of bassist Larry Steele and keyboardist Chris Parren he achieves a sound recalling Ray Charles' most deeply funky outings, complete with big band-inspired horn arrangements. Of course, Jackson's raw, impassioned vocals remain the centerpiece of The Greatest Little Soul Band in the Land - his rendition of Sam Cooke's oft-covered A Change Is Gonna Come is particularly effective, articulating the poignancy and pleading desperation of Cooke's message. The Greatest Little Soul Band in the Land is J. Jackson's third album. The album was released in 1969 on the Congress label, which had been relaunched that year by MCA as a subsidiary of Uni Records. The single released from the album was Fat, Black and Together, which was co-written by Jackson and Al Stewart. One reviewer described the single as a truly heavyweight funk jam that is the highlight of this gritty, soulful LP. Покупка J.
