Joe Savage, a favorite addition to many bands around the Twin Cities over the past two decades, finally steps up to the plate with his first solo effort. His CD, entitled Perennial Sideman, combines many musical elements, from folk to funk, and stretches the boundaries of his primary instrument, the pedal steel guitar. A multi-instrumentalist, Joe features various forms of steel guitar, including pedal steel, resophonic, National and lap steel in this wonderful collection of hardy and half hardy tunes. The album was reissued in 1997 on CD by Noise Records with six bonus tracks. In May 2011, the album was reissued once more by Steamhammer Records, a subsidiary of SPV with the same track list as the 1997 release, but with an added bonus CD containing 13 additional tracks. Singer Joe Diffie, an icon to many country music fans for his string of No. 1 hits in the 1990s, has died from coronavirus at the age of 61. His second album, Regular Joe, was his first to go gold. Around that time, he recorded a duet with Mary Chapin Carpenter, Not Too Much to Ask, that became a minor hit and was nominated for a Grammy for best country collaboration. He began to crest in 1993, when his third album, Honky Tonk Attitude, went platinum. The song John Deere Green did not go No 1, only reaching the top 5, but it became one of his signature songs nonetheless, and marked his first appearance on the pop chart.
